This broad, verdant valley is surrounded by mountains and filled with wildlife, historic buildings, and scenic trails. When we arrived, the peaceful atmosphere was immediately noticeable. The campground offers well-maintained sites with easy access to hiking paths and the famous Cades Cove Loop Road.

What makes camping here special?

• Wildlife Viewing: Early mornings and evenings are perfect for spotting deer, wild turkeys, and even black bears from a safe distance.

• Historic Sites: The cove is dotted with preserved cabins, churches, and mills that tell the story of early settlers.

• Hiking Trails: Trails like the Abrams Falls Trail provide moderate hikes leading to stunning waterfalls.

• Star Gazing: With minimal light pollution, the night sky is breathtaking.

We recommend booking your campsite well in advance, especially during peak seasons like fall and summer. The campground fills up quickly due to its popularity. We also recommend you take advantage of "car free" Wednesdays, where they close the Cades Cove loop road to vehicular traffic and it's only open to bicyclists and walkers. Please note, the loop is about 11 miles long and has quite a few hills along the way so plan accordingly.

After a morning of hiking and exploring Cades Cove, we headed back into Townsend for lunch at The Abbey. This charming restaurant offers a cozy atmosphere and a menu filled with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The Abbey’s sandwiches and salads are perfect for refueling after a morning outdoors. They also have a great selection of locally brewed IPA's available which made the our dining experience even more enjoyable.

• The brisket with spicy BBQ, pepper jack, coleslaw, and tots was incredible.
