Canoeing Through Scenic Waterways

One of the highlights of Tomoka State Park is its access to the Tomoka River, a calm and scenic waterway perfect for canoeing. Paddling here offers a peaceful way to explore the park’s diverse ecosystem.

Tips for Canoeing

  • Rentals: Canoes and kayaks are available for rent at the park, so you don’t need to bring your own gear.

  • Routes: The river has several routes ranging from short loops to longer trips that can take a few hours.

  • Wildlife Viewing: Keep an eye out for manatees, herons, and even alligators along the riverbanks.

  • Safety: Always wear a life jacket and check weather conditions before heading out.

Canoeing here is not just exercise; it’s an opportunity to connect with Florida’s natural environment in a way that few other activities offer. We choose the inland canals that lie between the park peninsula and the Halifax River. The shallow entry prevents motorized boats from entering so it was incredible journey along the scraggly shore line.

Bicycling Trails for All Levels

If you prefer to stay on land but still want an active adventure, Tomoka State Park has several biking trails that wind through the park’s diverse habitats. The trails vary in difficulty, making them accessible for families and serious cyclists alike.

What You’ll Find on the Trails

  • Trail Lengths: Trails range from short loops around the campground to longer rides that explore the park’s perimeter.

  • Terrain: Mostly flat with some sandy patches, suitable for hybrid or mountain bikes.

  • Scenery: Ride through pine flatwoods, oak hammocks, and along the river, with plenty of spots to stop and enjoy the view.

  • Bike Rentals: While the park doesn’t offer bike rentals, several nearby shops provide rental services.

Bicycling here is a great way to cover more ground and see different parts of the park in a single day.

  • What to Bring: Sunscreen, insect repellent, water bottles, and comfortable shoes.

  • Park Hours: Open from 8 a.m. to sunset daily.

  • Fees: There is a small entrance fee per vehicle, and camping fees vary by site.

Nearby towns like Ormond Beach provide additional dining and shopping options if you want to explore beyond the park.
