Boardwalk To Beach on Florida's Gulf Coast

Florida, famously known as the Sunshine State, is a tropical peninsula located in the southeastern U.S., bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. It boasts renowned theme parks, extensive coastlines, and unique wetlands like the Everglades, featuring the longest coastline (1,197 statute miles) in the contiguous United States, with 825 of accessible beaches for enjoyment. The state offers over 9,200 miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and shared use, along with more than 4,000 of paddling trails. Florida is home to 175 state parks, 38 state forests 12 national parks, preserves, seashores, and monuments, as well as three national forests and one national scenic trail. The Florida Everglades, spanning 1.5 million acres of sawgrass, marshes, mangrove forests, hardwood hammocks, and wetlands, is the largest subtropical wilderness in the U.S. Additionally, Florida's Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park is the only state park recognized by the International Dark-Sky Association, and it boasts over 1,200 golf courses—more than any other state in the U.S.
